From 6 to 10 October 2025, EXERGY will be among the protagonist as Platinum sponsor of the European Geothermal Congress (EGC), the leading event uniting the European geothermal sector and advancing its role in the energy transition.
With more than 1,200 participants, 55 exhibitors, and 200+ presenters, EGC is the event for discussing the latest developments in technology, science, market trends, and policy, all aimed at accelerating decarbonisation and strengthening Europe’s energy independence leveraging geothermal energy.
The Geothermal Market Report from EGEC reveals that 2024 was a year of both progress and potential for Europe’s geothermal sector. Three new power plants were commissioned in Austria and Türkiye, adding 40 MW of baseload electricity and bringing the continent’s total installed geothermal power capacity to more than 3.5 GWe, generating around 20 TWh annually. The district heating and cooling (GeoDHC) sector also advanced, with 10 new systems launched across Europe — three in Poland, two in the United Kingdom, and one each in France, Greece, Romania, Spain, and the Netherlands — adding 110 MWth of capacity and raising the total to over 6 GWth across 412 operational systems in 29 countries. Meanwhile, geothermal heat pumps, despite a 29% decline in sales within the EU, remain a crucial contributor, with 2.43 million units in operation supplying 85 TWh of heat to more than 10.5 million people. Record levels of exploration and seismic surveys in 2024–2025 highlight the sector’s accelerating momentum, with more than 50 new power plants and over 500 GeoDHC projects under development. Together, these trends underline the vast untapped potential of geothermal energy to deliver sustainable power and heat for Europe’s decarbonisation goals.
Our team will welcome you at Booth 41–43. Don’t miss the chance to meet us and explore how EXERGY’s ORC technologies can unlock efficiency and sustainability in geothermal projects.
Our colleague Giacomo Menghetti will deliver a poster presentation on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, titled “The United Downs Project: The UK’s First Integrated Deep Geothermal System Harnessing an EGS Reservoir with Advanced Organic Rankine Cycle.”
